This study examines multimedia-based strategies for teaching Arabic as a foreign language, with particular emphasis on enhancing learners’ listening comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. The study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach through a literature review of relevant academic sources on Arabic language teaching, multimedia learning, cognitive processing, listening comprehension, and vocabulary acquisition. The literature was analyzed thematically to identify the pedagogical principles and strategies underlying effective multimedia-based Arabic instruction. The findings reveal three interconnected dimensions: cognitive processing, listening comprehension, and vocabulary acquisition. Cognitive processing emphasizes managing learners’ limited working-memory capacity through appropriately organized multimedia input. Listening comprehension is supported through contextualized audio, video, visual information, and strategically designed captions. Vocabulary acquisition is enhanced through multimodal presentation, contextualized exposure, repetition, and opportunities for retrieval and communicative use. The study concludes that multimedia is most effective when strategically aligned with learners’ cognitive capacities and language-learning objectives, providing a foundation for more interactive, contextualized, and cognitively appropriate Arabic language teaching.
