Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

The Innovative Journal of Educational Research and Insights (IJERI) follows a rigorous and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, integrity, and academic merit of all submitted manuscripts. The process is designed to provide constructive feedback to authors and ensure that only high-quality, original research is published.

1. Initial Submission Screening

Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the editorial team to determine whether the submission aligns with the journal's scope and adheres to the submission guidelines. The editorial team checks for:

  • Fit with Journal Scope: The manuscript must focus on topics related to educational research and insights.
  • Basic Formatting: Manuscripts should follow the required formatting, including correct citation style and manuscript structure.
  • Plagiarism Check: Manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software to ensure originality.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are moved forward to the peer review stage, while those that do not meet the basic criteria are returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review

IJERI employs a double-blind peer review process, meaning that both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the review. This ensures an unbiased evaluation of the manuscript based solely on its academic merits.

  • Reviewer Selection: The editor assigns at least two expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject matter of the manuscript.
  • Review Criteria: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:
    • Originality and significance of the research
    • Clarity of the research objectives and methodology
    • Depth of analysis and interpretation of results
    • Quality of writing and organization
    • Relevance and contribution to the field of education
    • Proper use of citations and references
    • Ethical considerations, such as research involving human subjects

3. Reviewer Feedback

Once reviewers complete their evaluations, they submit a detailed report to the editor, which includes the following:

  • A recommendation to either:
    • Accept without revisions
    • Accept with minor revisions
    • Request major revisions
    • Reject
  • Constructive comments: Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their manuscript. Comments should be professional and focused on the content of the work, not personal critiques of the authors.

4. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication with no or very minor revisions.
  • Minor Revisions: Authors are required to address specific, minor concerns raised by reviewers. The revised manuscript is usually reviewed by the editor only, without further external review.
  • Major Revisions: The manuscript needs significant changes before it can be reconsidered. Authors must address all reviewer comments and resubmit the manuscript for a second round of review. The revised version may be sent to the original reviewers or new reviewers for further evaluation.
  • Reject: If the manuscript does not meet the journal's standards or the reviewers' concerns are too significant to address, the submission is rejected.

5. Revision Process

If revisions are required, the editor provides the authors with detailed feedback from the reviewers, along with specific revision requests. Authors are given a set deadline (typically 4-6 weeks) to submit the revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments. The revised manuscript may undergo another round of review depending on the nature of the revisions.

6. Final Decision and Acceptance

Once the editor is satisfied that the manuscript meets all requirements and the necessary revisions have been made, a final decision to accept the manuscript is made. The authors are then notified, and the accepted manuscript is prepared for publication.

7. Post-Acceptance

After acceptance, the manuscript undergoes a final round of proofreading, formatting, and copyediting by the editorial staff. Authors will be asked to review and approve the final version before publication. The manuscript is then published online in the next available issue.

8. Timeline

The entire peer review process typically takes 6-8 weeks, but this may vary depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, and the extent of revisions required. The journal strives to provide authors with timely and thorough feedback at each stage of the process.

Ethical Considerations in Peer Review

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. They are not to be shared or discussed with anyone outside the review process.
  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively and without bias. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, or personal) and recuse themselves from reviewing a manuscript if necessary.

The Peer Review Process at IJERI ensures that only high-quality, original research is published, and that authors receive constructive feedback to improve their work. This process upholds the academic rigor and integrity of the journal.
